The annual Snowbound Writers Contest gives local writers the chance to compete and get their works published.

Enteries are being accepted between now and January 31, 2008 at the GHAAC. (Click here to download entry form.)

Juding will take place during the month of February. Winnig entries will be published in March.

Reception (open to the public): March 19th, 2008, 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the GHAAC Building.

Dates and Details

  1. Entries may be fiction or non-fiction, but must be original and unpublished.
  2. Maximum length is 200 words for prose; 40 lines for poetry.
  3. Writers can enter works in one of the four age categories:
    • Elementary, grades 4& 5
    • Middle School, grades 6-8
    • High School, grades 9-12
    • Adult
  4. Writers may submit both a prose and poetry entry, but will be limited to just one work in each category.
  5. Each entry fee will be $10.00 and be used as part of the prize pool. Awards will be presented at a special reception.
  6. Each entry should be typewritten, double-spaced and submitted on white paper.
  7. To ensure each entry is judged anonymously, writers must include a cover sheet. (Click here to download entry form.)
  8. Authors must be residents or students of Ottawa or Muskegon counties.
  9. No teacher assignments will be accepted.
  10. Entries will be accepted now through January 31, 2008.
  11. Entries may be hand-delivered to GHAAC at 1045 Columbus Avenue in Grand Haven (Click here for map.) or mailed to Snowbound Writers Contest, P.O. Box 472, Grand Haven, MI  49417
  12. Decisions of the judges will be final. Prizes will be awarded.
  13. Writers must keep copies of their entries; as entries will not be returned.
  14. Winners will be notified the week of March 3, 2008.
  15. Winning entries will be published as a GHAAC publication and available at local libraries, the GHAAC website, and at the GHAAC building.
